The focus of the keynote was to describe how new and emerging technology such as machine learning, 3D printing, Big data and intelligent robotics will impact jobs as we know them today. With technology evolving extremely fast, skills learned in Higher Education are no longer for life. Students need to be prepared for multiple reskilling throughout their career which offers fabulous opportunities for Higher Education Institutes.
The key message to the audience of over 600 University leaders emanated from Tim’s discussions with industry leaders throughout Asia on how they felt Higher Education and Industry needed to strengthen relationships so as to offer more work based experiences. As one Industry leader said ‘We are adopting technology at a far greater speed than Universities can change their curriculum” Students need to get experience in the workplace to gain exposure to new ways of working.
Tim’s keynote was followed by the Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, who gave a strong message about Malaysia’s Higher Education 4.0 program. The Minister also referenced content from Tim’s discussion.
