The InPlace Team are delighted to welcome The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) – the first Further Education institute in the UK to partner with InPlace, to manage student work experience and placements at scale.
CONEL was voted the top Further Education college in England in the FE Choices Learner Satisfaction Survey 2016/17. The institute offers over 300 vocational courses and apprenticeships which are taught with a learner-centric approach. These and heavily geared towards industry outcomes and community.
CONEL has deployed InPlace Software across its varied programs; including Hair & Beauty Therapy, Construction, and Science & Engineering.
Getting ready to scale up the placement & work experience process
From September 2019, CONEL will be London’s first college to offer free tuition to students doing entry level, level 1 and level 2 courses – regardless of their age or income. This fantastic offering is anticipated to result in a significant increase in enrolments from young local people.
Another key challenge for the College is preparation for T-Levels. T-Levels are new courses equivalent to A Levels (post GCSE) that will aim to align 16-18 year olds more closely with the workplace. To illustrate, the curriculum includes ‘long-term’ work placements requiring students to gain real industry experience.
CONEL has therefore prioritised the need for an ‘all-in-one’ system to manage the growth in placements they will deliver in 2019 and beyond.
Thoughts from CONEL’s team
With InPlace being rolled out across the College, Head of Quality and Compliance Carl Boyd feels optimistic about scaling the administrative management of placements:
“Our objective at CONEL is to ensure that each student undertakes real world industry experience that is relevant to their goals and interests. It’s not about compliance and simply ensuring all of our 16-18 learners go out on a placement. It’s about creating a genuine impact for the students. This will be achieved by giving them the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to be work ready. InPlace will serve us in scaling our placement management process so every student can have meaningful industry experience.”
InPlace look forward to supporting CONEL as they endeavour to give more students the opportunity to develop their employability skills.
