On 13th and 14th August 2018, Deakin University hosted the 7th annual Australian InPlace National User Group Conference, with great support from the University of New England, Charles Sturt and James Cook Universities. The main focus for this year’s conference was peer-to-peer learning and user experience. Over 115 InPlace users attended from all over Australia, welcomed by the sensational Organising Committee and 20 QuantumIT/InPlace representatives. Presentations InPlace users ardently participated in 15 plus sessions over the two days. Placement Coordinators play a key role in the everyday mechanics of securing students with industry experience. From sourcing the most relevant internships/placements, to managing interviews and offers between employers and students, the end-to-end process heavily relies on them. Therefore, over the years the InPlace team has worked with a number of clients, in particular Queensland University of Technology (QUT), to develop a feature to help Placement Coordinators manage this workflow as efficiently as possible. The fifth Annual UK User Group has just wrapped with almost 80 delegates travelling from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland to meet at the University of Chester Riverside Innovation Centre. The two day conference was well attended having grown roughly 50% year on year, with delegates comprising almost 30 different universities, and representation from a number of NHS Education divisions. Highlights from the conference include presentations from Nottingham Trent University outlining their journey, plans, achievements and benefits in the five years since deploying InPlace, Robert Gordon University’s presentation sharing best practice on InPlace’s implementation for furthering Student Employability
InPlace’s Director of Asia, Tim Bergmeier, was invited to keynote at the Malaysia Education 4.0 conference on 11 September 2017 to discuss Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and the impact of IR4.0 on the current and future workforce. The focus of the keynote was to describe how new and emerging technology such as machine learning, 3D printing, Big data and intelligent robotics will impact jobs as we know them today. With technology evolving extremely fast, skills learned in Higher Education are no longer for life. Students need to be prepared for multiple reskilling throughout their career which offers fabulous opportunities
In early August 2017, 120 Placement Coordinators and InPlace Superusers from all over Australia representing 26 Higher Edu Institutes arrived at Monash College in the Melbourne CBD for a two day conference. InPlace was deployed at Monash University in 2013, and is utilised university wide in a broad range of schools and disciplines. The User Group format mixes all-inclusive presentations with breakout workshops to maximise involvement and participation.
